About us

Our missions

Supply renewable but non-intermittent, continuous and competitive electricity to electricity grid operators.

Renewable energies such as solar and wind power are by nature intermittent. They have experienced strong growth over the last decade. But even if they still only represent a minor contribution to the overall energy mix, their intermittency is already causing significant local problems for power system operators. With the massive deployment of renewable energies expected in the coming years, these problems will increase.

Many countries are publishing their hydrogen (H2) strategy and Europe is leading the green hydrogen revolution with very significant stimulus measures (41 billion euros accumulated to date in Europe).

While industry and mobility are well known applications of green hydrogen, the production of green hydrogen to provide non-intermittent renewable electricity is a new market. This hydrogen electricity, or Hydrogen Power, is considered the fastest growing segment in the coming years. It is expected to reach about 40% of the total annual hydrogen demand in the European Union by 2050 (source: FCH JU).

Hydrogen is the only long-term, massive and non-polluting energy storage solution. Hydrogen Power, which combines the production of renewable energy and its storage in the form of hydrogen, appears to be the only non-intermittent, sustainable and flexible renewable energy source for the future.

Hydrogen Power is the most promising solution to the challenge of intermittent renewable energy, offering massive and widespread deployment.

Position
HDF Energy is the global pioneer in Hydrogen Power

HDF Energy is an Independent Power Producer (IPP) that offers two hydrogen power plant solutions (Power-to-Power and Hydrogen-to-Power) and is as well a manufacturer of high power fuel cells (+1MW):

Power-to-Power solutions (Renewstable®  plants) are fully integrated projects that combine renewable energy production, hydrogen production via electrolyzers, massive storage of this hydrogen and then 24/24 baseload non-intermittent electricity production using multi-megawatt fuel cells.

Hydrogen-to-Power solutions (HyPower® plants) are multi-megawatt power plants, composed of high power fuel cells, generating electricity on demand from a hydrogen pipeline or a hydrogen production site.

HDF Energy's projects are based on long-term power purchase agreements.

The company benefits from a unique know-how in the Hydrogen Power value chain, combining the traditional expertise of an IPP with H2 expertise (combination of H2 technologies, proprietary simulation and O&M tools). These skills have enabled HDF Energy to set the market standard in a new energy asset class.

To support its hydrogen power plant projects for grids and enables bankability of a technology brick, HDF Energy has developed a unique expertise in the design, manufacturing and industrialization of multi-megawatt fuel cells. In particular, the company has signed an exclusive multi-year development agreement with Ballard Power System, the world leader in fuel cells for mobility, to address the market for high power stationary applications. HDF Energy has already delivered the first 1 MW fuel cell after 3 years of joint development with Ballard.
